Using SSL with shared certificate on Hostway

( Using id##.securedata.net on Hostway )

There are only three things critical to accessing files using SSL with a shared certificate:

  1. Place your files in your WWW directory or any directory below WWW.

  2. Make certain your permissions for the file are appropriate for the content. For example a public read for htm or html content and public execute for cgi content. At this point, you should be able to access all the files using http.

  3. Correctly form the URL to access your content via https and SSL. The syntax is https://id3497.securedata.net/yourdomain/yourwwwfile. The ## is the number supplied by your hosting service. Your domain excludes com, net, etc. If your file is in a subdirectory, include the path normally. Include the file's extension. An example may be easier than an explanation. To access this file via SSL use https://id3497.securedata.net/myonecent/howtoSSL.htm
